Restaurant and Gym Service Environment Literature review

Essays on Restaurant and Gym Service Environment Literature review The paper "Restaurant and Gym Service Environment" is a great example of a literature review on marketing. The background aspects of the service environment usually have profound impacts on both the customers and employees. Customers during the course of service encounter environmental aspects, such as to scents, music, lighting, temperature, and noise. These aspects influence the customer emotionally, physiologically, and cognitively and depending on the influence, the customer assessment of service quality is affected. The assessment of the restaurant and gym service environment revealed that the general interior, exterior facilities, environment layout, interior display, as well as social dimension play an important role in customer satisfaction with a service provider. In both the service environments, customers are able to have a pleasant experience and this ensures repeated use of services. In accordance with the Russell model of affect, the service climate of both the restaura nt and gym enables the customers to have a pleasant experience.IntroductionService encounter usually plays an important function in determining customer satisfaction. Organizations usually strive to create a service climate, which encourages customers to perceive the service quality received as superior (Harris Ezeh 2008). The design elements in a service environment can lead customers to have a joyful influence and this, in turn, can influence customer loyalty. According to Jiun-Sheng and Haw-Yi (2011), the physical and social environment has a positive influence on customer emotions and satisfaction, which consequently influence behavioral intentions. They also noted that the physical environment exhibits more influence on consumer emotion and satisfaction than the social environment. This report will focus on the main design elements in a restaurant and a gym. The quality of service does not only depend on the offered services that meet the needs of the customers but also creati ng an atmosphere as well as an overall experience that is satisfying.Restaurant Services EnvironmentExterior FacilitiesThe restaurant has a very modern architectural design. The design of the restaurant is attractive with structural steel framings as well as glass together with unique architectural details on the exterior, which compliment the interior modern facilities. The design is eye-catching and helps to attract the attention of customers from afar. The restaurant structural height is 30m with 4 floors. This is a good height as most customers can easily access the different areas in the restaurants very fast. The restaurant occupies a land area of 800 m2 with a construction area of 1500m2. This space is adequate for restaurant expansion and enables the restaurant to be less crowded. The color of the building is blue and green.

Project Management Creating Innovative Products

Question: Discuss about theProject Managementfor Creating Innovative Products. Answer: Introduction Any project is usually designed to help achieve a certain pre-established outcome. For this purpose project objectives have to be clearly stated before its implementation so that the success or failure can be established using these objectives. Therefore for a project to be deemed successful, all the objectives stated must be achieved. On the contrary a project is deemed unsuccessful if its initially established objectives are not met. Projects usually have people with interests in them; these are often referred to as project stakeholders. For them, implementation or lack of implementation of a given project affects them either positively or negatively (Berkun Berkun,2008). In this essay, I will analyze the implementation of Non-motor Geocoding for fire and risk accumulation project for Australia. This was a project for UW Non-Motor of ABZ insurance designed to help in effective risk management for clients. The implementation of this project was necessitated by the fact that the process of checking fire blocks and risk accumulation which initially was done trough paper based map consumed a lot of time and resulted to errors (Emond Steins,2011) .There was therefore the need to establish an alternative method that would make the process more effective and efficient thus leading to reliable sets of data to be used in risk management. The application would also simplify the work of the underwriter by making it less time consuming and more efficient. The application had a number of objectives which included helping the underwriter in processing insurance for different disasters such as earthquakes, floods, and fire and wind storms among others. It was also designed to assess the potential risk of damage resulting from such disasters up to the residences of the clients. The design of the application was also meant to establish risk levels as well as sharing these levels. Its other objective was to assess the potential risk of damage as a result of occurrence of the identified risk. It was also meant to help establish the circumstances surrounding the occurrence of such risks and avail the same information to the underwriter. This was meant to be a deviation from the manual system which was initially used and which resulted to significant amount of errors and time wastage (Ferraro, 2012). The stakeholders for this project included the project sponsor, who was actually the vice president of the company, business project manager, and technical lead, the clients for the project included the It department, claims department, sales and manufacturing department and underwriting non-motor department. My discussion will therefore be based on this project. Basically the theory of project management should reveal how stakeholders actions lead to the success or failure of a project (Heldman,2011). For the achievement of project objectives, there is supposed to be a team work approach by the various project stakeholders this was clearly demonstrated in this given project. My experience with the team was amazing, we managed to work collectively by collaborating in given activities, sharing ideas, seeking clarifications and finally in taking early corrective actions to ensure that the success of the project was not affected. As discussed in class, the project was effectively designed to meet all the user needs, and then checks were put in place to ensure that there was no deviation from the intended course of action for the achievement of the overall project objectives. There was also continuous improvement of the systems so that the quality of the project was maintained throughout. This firsthand experience really brought a lot of insight in me regarding project management .I was able to acquire a wide range of skills regarding project management .Besides I was able to establish and build relationships with other players in the project. I was able to establish the important role of project planning, monitoring and evaluation in the achievement of project objectives. Successful implementation of this project was dependent on number of factors. As the project manager, I was aware of the responsibility bestowed upon me for the successful completion and implementation of the project. I therefore had to do everything in my capacity to ensure that the project was implemented as intended so that time and resources did not go into waste and also to ensure that the trust entrusted on me was not broken. I brought the team together, ensured that processes were adhered to and kept all the stages of the implementation in check to ensure that all errors were corrected before proceeding to the next phase. A project manager has been defined as a person who is responsible for planning execution and closing of a project. As the project manager, I played a significant role to the success of the project (Highsmith,2010).In particular, I estimated the cost for the project, planned and defined the scope of the project, I also established and planned for the resources to be used in the project and made clear the sequence and order of events, I effectively lead and managed the project management team, I also closely monitored every stage of implementation to ensure that everything was implemented according to the plan, I also established a time frame for implementation of the project and managed project risks among other responsibilities that can be attributed to the successful implementation of the project. By working hand in hand with other team members instead of bossing them around, and by keeping them motivated throughout the implementation process, I was able to ensure that everything wa s carried out as planned. By ensuring that the schedule for the project implementation was adhered to I was able to keep track of all the activities and ensure that no unnecessary activities were introduced which would lead to further delay in the implementation of the project. Apart from this also management of resources was an integral component of the success of the project. It is true that wastage of resources set aside for a given project can lead to delay in implementation of a project or make a project fail to achieve its intended objectives which makes the whole process futile (Kerzner,2013) From the whole process, I was able to draw a lot of insight on Project management. I learnt that there are there very critical components of a project namely scope, schedule and budget. Project scope pertains a list of deliverables that need to be considered for the success of the project. Given under project scope are project features. This refers to the special attributes of a given project or the things to be incorporated in a given project to make it able to achieve its objectives, Features such as the number of users that can use the software at a go could be disastrous if they were not considered. Included in the scope of the project also are the specific functions that will be carried out, for this project, a number of functions were identified before its implementation. Establishment of such was critical in ensuring that the success of the project was achieved. I also learnt of the important role played by deadlines in project management. Deadline refers to the period of time by which a project should be completed. Setting deadlines helps to keep the group focused towards meeting the projects standards within the stipulated deadline. Without deadlines people are likely to wander around and waste so much time that could have been used for the project (Stackpole,2013). The schedule of a project refers to the listing of project activities and deliverables in a sequential manner for the start to the finish date. All activities are arranged in the order I which they follow one another from the first activity to the final activity scheduling of events in reducing confusion among the project and also enable monitoring of project activities. I was able to know the fact that scheduling of events is important in ensuring that a project is implemented successfully because it helps in identification of errors and rectifying them before proceeding on to the next stage. If errors are not identified early enough, the overall quality of a project might be affected The final component is the budget .A budget is defined as the amount of money that intends to be spent in a given undertaking. I was able to identify that every step of a project is dependent on the budget. This signifies the important role that budgets play in project management. Lack of adequate funding has been responsible for stalling of many projects. Buying of materials to be used in a project is dependent on the budget, paying of salaries also is dependent on the project budget. It is sufficient budget also that allows research to establish the needs of a given project (Schmidt, 2009). I will make sure that in the next project an adequate budget will be set aside so that the project can continue without challenges. Conclusion Based on the above exposition, we can conclude that project management is not all about having a group of people implementing a project. Instead, a number of deliverables have to be put in place so that the project can meet its objectives. Without this, the efforts of project team would be in futility. How to Write a Cause and Effect Essay on Chinese Students#8217; Discrimination in the US

How to Write a Cause and Effect Essay on Chinese Students#8217; Discrimination in the US Cause and effect essays are a common writing task for students, one which forces students to often review either a cause or an effect, and not necessarily both in the same paper. Writing about a Cause If you are assigned, or opt personally, to write about a cause, your goal is to present what lies at the foundation or start of something. If you are writing about discrimination, then the cause of the discrimination would be anything that begets it, anything that is responsible for its start. This can be cultural differences, immaturity among school children or young children, a lack of knowledge or ignorance about another culture, feelings of inferiority, competition in the classroom or workplace, or even racial tendencies that were taught by parents or by specific aspects of culture like movies or books. You can select a good cause from the list of topics on Chinese students’ discrimination. Writing about an Effect If you are assigned, or opt personally, to write about an effect, your goal is to present the outcome or the end result of something. In this part you can avail of facts that concern Chinese students’ discrimination. If you are writing about it, then the effects of discrimination would be anything pertaining to the influence the discrimination itself has on the students who faced it. This can be emotional damage, psychological changes, family issues, educational progress, work success, etc†¦ The effect can be positive, negative, or both. You can present both positive and negative effects in a single paper, or you can emphasize one over the other. In any case, the process for pre-writing and writing remains the same: Picking Your Topic.  If you were assigned a topic, this part is easy. If not, think about whether you want to focus on a cause or effect, and which things about either are most interesting to you. Conducting Research.  When you are researching your topic, take notes. Write down important facts you want to use with proper bibliographic information so you will have it. Use this time to make notecards for the big arguments you are making and for the supporting evidence you have. Writing an Outline.  The outline can take any shape or design you want, something that can be simple bullet points or larger sentences that are complete and comprehensive. Completing a Draft.  The draft should be simple if you have a good outline. Use the draft as the first writing phase. Remember that no first draft is perfect and you will likely rewrite it several times. Proofreading and Editing.  These are two very different items which many students assume are one and the same. Editing should be done first. Editing is where you look at bigger picture items such as the content itself, the flow, and any supporting evidence. Your goal in editing should be to find areas that do not really hold your argument together well, or areas where you need more evidence. Proofreading is the final item to be completed, one where you find spelling mistakes or grammatical errors or even typographical errors through a line-by-line review. How to Withdraw From College the Right Way

How to Withdraw From College the Right Way Once youve made the difficult decision to withdraw from college, the first thing on your mind is likely to get away from campus as soon as possible. Unfortunately, moving too quickly may cause you to forget a few important tasks, which can prove both costly and detrimental. So, just what do you need to do to make sure youve covered all of your bases? Approaching this decision the right way will save you difficulties in the future. Talk to Your Academic Adviser   Your first stop should be to meet with your academic adviser- in person. Even though it might seem easier to send an email, this kind of decision warrants an in-person conversation. Will it be awkward? Maybe. But spending 20 minutes having a face-to-face conversation can save you hours of mistakes later. Talk to your adviser about your decision and ask the correct way to let your institution know youd like to withdraw. Talk to the Financial Aid Office The official date of your withdrawal will likely have a major impact on your finances. If, for example, you withdraw early in the semester, you might need to pay back all or part of any student loans you received to cover school expenses. Additionally, any scholarship funds, grants, or other monies you received might need to be repaid. If you withdraw late in the semester, your financial obligations might be different. Therefore, meeting with someone in the financial aid office about your choice to withdraw can be a smart, money-saving decision. Let the financial aid officer know your intended withdrawal date and ask how this will affect the money you have paid or loans youve received so far. Your financial aid officer can also let you know when you will need to begin repaying loans you received in prior semesters. Talk to the Registrar In addition to the conversations you have with school administrators, you will likely need to submit something in writing about your reasons for withdrawing and your official date of withdrawal. The registrars office might also need you to complete paperwork to make your withdrawal official. Since the registrars office also usually handles transcripts, you will want to make sure your records are clear so youll have no difficulty obtaining copies of your transcripts and official documents in the future. After all, if youre thinking of going back to school or applying for a job, you dont want your transcripts to indicate that you failed your courses because you didnt get your official withdrawal paperwork completed correctly. Talk to the Housing Office If youre living on campus, youll also have to let the housing office know about your decision to withdraw. Youll want to get a final determination of fees for the semester as well as costs for cleaning and preparing the room for another student. The housing office will also be able to give you the official deadline for removing all of your belongings. Lastly, ask for the name of the person to whom you should return your keys. Be sure to get a receipt to document the date and time that you turn over your room and keys. You dont want to be charged for a locksmith simply because you returned your keys to the wrong individual. Talk to the Alumni Office You dont have to graduate from an institution to be considered an alumnus. If youve attended, youre eligible for services through the alumni office. Its a good idea to stop by the alumni office and introduce yourself before you leave campus. When you visit the alumni office, leave a forwarding address and get information on alumni benefits which may include everything from job placement services to discounted health insurance rates. Even if youre leaving school without a degree, youre still part of the community and youll want to stay informed about how your institution can support your future endeavors.

Movie Reflection Paper Review Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Reflection Paper - Movie Review Example This is portrayed compellingly through the transition we see from Vales hesitant music lessons in classical piano (which is shown to be a talent of his late wifes), to learning the African drum from Tarek, something which he seems to have a knack for. It comes to the point that Vale joins a drummers circle and for the first time in years begins to reconnect with the world around him. Things take a turn for the worse when Tarek is arrested and thrown into a detention centre for illegal immigrants. As Vale hires a lawyer to help Tarek, he starts to navigate a world he had never expected to encounter, or even given much thought to. Tareks mother arrives in the picture unexpectedly, looking for her son- and soon a friendship of quiet domesticity and real affection blossoms between the two. What is evident in the spirit of the film, and one that applies to the diversity issue in present discourse is the opposition between bureaucracy and humanism. Laws and statues are cold, and applied without any form of compassion or inquiry about the human it is being enforced upon. By bringing to us a picture from the other point of view, of the subaltern whose voice is nowhere to be found, we find that it is impossible to turn a blind eye to the system, which in the case of immigration laws, especially, is insensitive and unflinching, a perversion of ideals that claim to serve humanity, and uphold the value of life before everyone else. Which is of course where the debate regarding the diversity issue comes in. Does race, colour, ethnicity or rationality decide which life is to be valued and which is not? Who deserves the help of the system and who should be turned away? The diversity issue is not something that can just be construed as a morality lesson in a film- it exists today in society, in what can be termed first world countries,

Topic of choice Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Topic of choice - Essay Example It is evident and clear that owing to the differences between an adult and a child, children who murder should not be tried as adults. The judicial system of the adults and the children should be separate and children should be tried in juvenile courts as they do not have the capability of understanding and reaching to conclusion with regard to court consultations. The case of Bobby Hines who was a student in middle school clearly reflects as an example. Bobby Hines was with his friends and one of his friends murdered a person during an argument. Hines was punished and the charge against him was that of â€Å"felony murder.† Hines was imprisoned for lifetime and during his trial he was provided with a deal to change his charge to â€Å"second degree murder† which could have resulted in reduced prison term. Hines was very young and he did not understand the working of the adult judicial system and hence he is still in prison for the last 22 years. Deborah Labelle, who holds the post of the director of The Juvenile Life without Parole Initiative, uses this case to explain that owing to the inability of the children to recognize and understand the rules of the judicial system of the adults, they eventually end up being sentenced to tougher prison terms. Thus, children who should murder should be dealt with in a different manner than their adult counterparts (Lee, 2012). The United States is still marked to be one country across the globe that has very strict laws with regard to the trial of children who are guilty of murder. They can be sentenced to life imprisonment without the right of release. A research conducted on a national level in a Sentencing Project which is mainly functioning in Washington D.C. highlighted the drawbacks of trying children in the adult courts. The report indicated that children who were tried in adult courts faced racial discrimination accompanied with hindrances in corrective and restorative

Fast-Food Gone Bad Essay Example for Free

Fast-Food Gone Bad Essay An argument is an implicit dialogue that has importance to appeals. This is done by using different elements of an argument, in which the different parts are the claim (or thesis), the support, the evidence, the warrant, the appeals to the audience, and the counter argument that is being used in the scenario. In this essay that Michele Simon has wrote she examines the unhealthy choices of the some restaurants and explains on how they’re misleading the healthy people in the World. In Michele Simon’s â€Å"Even the ‘Healthy’ Choices at Fast Food Restaurants Are Unhealthy†, uses all of the parts and the elements of an argument in her essay. The first statement that Simon makes is â€Å"In response to sharpening criticism from nutrition advocates, fast-food franchises have added supposedly ‘healthy’ options to their menus† (Simon 473). This would be Simon’s claim, which would be the thesis statement of her argument. This is what the author or the person who wrote the situation is trying to tell you what they’re trying to answer or trying to prove in their argument. Arguments typically have three types of claims; claim of fact, claim of value, and claim of policy. In Simon’s argument her thesis is a claim of policy because she is trying to make a solution to figure out there problem and make it better so there can be something done about this or try to make better. We know there are many problems with fast food and Simon proves her argument by going on and saying different reasons for why this is true in her essay. The warrant is a belief or principle that can be assumed based on the argument. The warrant is never stated in great detail, and it must be drawn from statements made by the arguer. While it is not said by Simon her warrant is still clear and well understood. In Simon’s argument as implies that fast-food restaurants are not committed to the well being of their patrons (Simon). Also it is said that Simon thinks that fast-food restaurants are misleading to consumers who are trying to eat healthy. This also warrants that menu items are misleading and sometimes confusing for the consumer that is buying the product. The consumer could think that they were getting something healthier then a cheeseburger, but in all truth it’s actually worse than that cheeseburger. She must appeal to her audience in order to win the argument, by saying that a majority of fast-food restaurants are not telling the truth about their menu items and that there not healthy. The evidence is used to give strength to the argument and to prove the support for the claim. Many forms of evidence are found in examples, statistics, and expert is brought in to give valuable feedback on the argument. Simon provides many forms of evidence to back up her claim that she has possessed. In her first form of evidence she implies â€Å"The new Happy Meal option, which includes a sugar-loaded caramel dipping sauce† (Simon 473). She is implying that this idea is not much better then French fries because the caramel dipping sauce is full of sugar. Simon’s next problem was that she mentions â€Å"instead of a coke, kids can now have apple juice or milk† (Simon 475). This evidence Simon is trying to say that the apple juice and milk is still full of sugars and it’s still not good for your children. The next support of evidence for her claim is that she implies that â€Å"calling the chicken ‘crispy’ instead of fried is misleading† (Simon 474). She mentions that because if a person hears this that would automatically think that this is healthy salad. She is implying that is should just be called fried because so many people could get this confused. The logos support and evidence has support from multiple studies with facts and stats, given as evidence. Ethos supports from appeals to individuals in dealing with menu items and the choices on it. Pathos is used throughout her essay by giving thought to how unhealthy fast-food is. She mentions that â€Å"For a toddler who needs 1,000 calories per day, a Happy Meal consisting of four Chicken McNuggets, small French fries, and a low-fat chocolate milk totals 580 calories, or more than half of a child’s daily recommended calorie intake† (Simon 475). Simon is saying that no matter what you’re getting at a fast-food restaurant it’s going to be unhealthy for you, and your children. The counter argument Simon takes into consideration the argument opposing her claim, Simon doesn’t spend much time about a counter argument, but it is addressed in her essay. Simon grants â€Å"Go Active! Adult Happy Meal† (Simon 476). Which fell through and done away with because it didn’t work. Simon points out â€Å"In 2004 Ruby Tuesday reduced some portion sizes and added healthier items† (Simon 476). Another thing that Simon points out that was that â€Å"Wendy’s garnered great press in February 2005 for its ‘bold’ decision to add fresh fruit to its menu† (Simon 476). Simon has all of these examples for the counter argument that the fast-food industry is getting somewhat better. In conclusion there are many parts of an argument, and Simon uses all of these parts to successfully get her argument across effectively. She makes her claim, and then backs it up with the right support and to make his claim even stronger. Then she successfully gets the warrant across which has great appeal to the audience and is needed to make the claim that much stronger. Then finally Simon uses her counter argument to address to her audience what has been happening in the years past to try and fix the problem. Works Cited Simon, Michele. Melanoma :: essays research papers fc

The word melanoma comes from the Greek words, melas (black) and -oma (tumour). It is a very serious cancer that most often occurs in the skin and less frequently in the eye or in the lining of the nose, mouth, or genitals. Melanoma begins in melanocytes, cells that make a pigment called melanin. Both light- and dark-skinned people have melanin, which gives colour to the skin, hair, and parts of the eye. The skin is the largest organ in the body, so it isn’t surprising that skin cancer is the most common of all cancers. Melanoma is the least common form of skin cancer, affecting 4% of all cases but causing 79% of skin cancer deaths. The average age of people diagnosed with Melanoma is between 45 and 55, although 25% of cases occur in people under 40. About 10% of all people with melanoma have a family history of melanoma. You are at increased risk of developing melanoma if there is a family history of melanoma in one or more of your first-degree relatives like a parent, child, brother or sister. The major environmental risk factor for melanoma is overexposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun. People who have fair skin that burns or freckles easily need to be especially careful in the sun as protecting yourself against UV overexposure is an important way you can help reduce your risk of developing melanoma. There are two common misconceptions about melanoma. The first is that melanomas develop only in sun-exposed areas of the body. In fact, melanomas can occur in areas not normally exposed to the sun, including the abdomen, genitals, and soles of the feet. The second misconception is that dark-skinned and Asian people are not at risk for the disease. In fact, one type of melanoma occurs most frequently in African American and Asian populations, developing on the palms, soles, and nail beds. The first sign of melanoma is often a change in the size, shape, or color of an existing mole or the appearance of a new mole. Men most commonly develop melanoma on the trunk, particularly the back, and women on the legs or arms. Melanoma develops in a manner similar to other cancer types. A cell's DNA genes, which control cell division and reproduction, become damaged. The damaged genes cause the cell to divide and grow without control or order, eventually becoming a malignant tumor.

Avoiding the Alignment Trap in Intormation Technology Essay

An alarming pattern has surfaced in that many companies are concentrating on alignment and are finding that their performance is either declining or moving sideways. Companies are focusing on the wrong solutions with respect to their Information Technology problems, resulting in severe bottlenecks to growth. Companies need to learn how to break out of the trap and build IT organizations that allow for growth rather than obstruct it. Companies will need to be committed as doing so will require a continuous effort. The essential goal for these companies in order to succeed is to move IT into the upper-right quadrant, where they will be highly effective and highly aligned, and where IT appears to be enabling growth rather than inhibiting it. In order to move in this direction, it is my recommendation that the companies begin by installing local area networks locally, as well as a central database stored on a server to connect to head office. This option is economically feasible, will improve local efficiencies and will allow the sharing of resources and records. I would also recommend that the companies begin feasibility testing to explore the implementation of an internal ERP system to support global operations in the near future. Doing this will help companies to keep up with the competition. Current Situation Companies are getting caught in an â€Å"alignment trap† whereas they are spending large amounts of resources towards being highly aligned and not realizing the importance of being highly effective as well. There are four quadrants within which companies are being categorized with respect to their ability to be effective. They are being measured based on the ineffectiveness as far as completing projects on time and on budget, and the ineffectiveness of alignment to an important business objective. The first of these quadrants is â€Å"alignment trap†. Despite being highly aligned, the companies within this group are less effective in completing budgets on time and within the budget. Charles Schwab & Co. is currently in this position and as a result, continues to spend money on projects and seeing no growth. The second quadrant is â€Å"maintenance zone†. Companies in this quadrant are less aligned to major business objectives but are maintaining below average levels of growth even though they are less effective and spending more in IT as a result. In this zone, IT is not performing well, is not valued and is segregated from the company’s main functions. Management is budgeting enough to keep the system running, but IT is not providing any added value to the business. Third is the â€Å"well-oiled IT† quadrant which can be categorized as second best. In this group, companies are highly effective at bringing projects in on time and on budget. They are more focused on execution. Still, companies are less aligned meaning that their IT group does not fully understand the priorities of the business and where to spend the resources. Lastly, the â€Å"IT-enabled growth† quadrant is where all companies would like to be. This quadrant encompasses those companies who are not only highly effective at making IT projects successful, but are also highly aligned in relation to their business objectives. Examples of companies who have succeeded in this respect are Nestle, Wal-Mart, FedEx and Dell. The following are IT-related issues that organizations are currently facing as they attempt to align their business goals with IT technology: – Believing that alignment is the solution to their IT problems, companies are spending enormous amounts of money without solving any problems. – Various divisions are driving independent initiatives, each one designed to address its own competitive needs, resulting in complexity of IT systems (no standardization). As a result, costs increase and the fragmented divisions make it harder for managers to coordinate across business units. – Complexity in systems is making enhancements to systems and improvements to infrastructures more and more difficult to implement and potential benefits are left unused. – Redundant applications that perform the same or similar functions. – Outsourcing the wrong activities. – Data in multiple information systems are viewed as â€Å"garbage† and producing inconsistencies (i.e. salespeople are promoting products that are discontinued) – In companies similar to Charles Schwab & Co. for example: IT staff response have become slow and expensive; IT engineers are spending more time fixing bugs in the systems than ever before; and several big and ambitious projects are overdue and preventing the company from being competitive. Criteria The following criteria will be used to evaluate each of the alternatives: – IT spending must be aligned with the company’s growth strategies (need to reduce IT costs i.e. savings on software licensing costs where bleeding money, and head count). – Must be shared ownership and shared governance of IT projects. – Need to reduce complexity (or emphasize simplicity). – Increase efficiency (doing things in a cost effective way with no duplication of time and effort). – Economically feasible. – IT infrastructure to support networked operations in multiple locations. – Need to centralize and simplify the IT functions. – Need high effectiveness to achieve an objective through the use of: 1. simplicity (or reducing complexity) – by implementing companywide standards, replacing legacy systems, building new solutions on simplified and standardized infrastructure; 2. right sourcing – choosing the right source for a capability and maximizing effectiveness while minimizing cost; and 3. accountability – executives should get the information they need to measure the progress of IT and IT people should be held accountable for outcomes. – IT needs to be reliable, without excess complexity, and needs to deliver projects consistently with desired functionality, timing and cost. – IT systems need to run smoothly and reliably. – IT functions such as architecture and infrastructure need to be balanced with respect to the needs of the entire organization and those of individual businesses. – Need a good governance structure so as to set parameters to keep an organization on track (i.e. no more than four new technology releases per year).

To my family who are my inspirations and who gave their moral and financial supports. To my friends who always give me advices with regards to my problem. CHEYNARRD BENIPAYO ORATE INTRODUCTION The Diploma in Industrial Technology Major in Computer Technology intends to produce an efficient and effective technician because the students in this subjec t will learn how to apply what they have learned from their professor. It is a really big help for me that i am enrolled in on this On Job Training because we will be trained to become a better and good technician someday. You will manage how to face the common problems that will be surely encountered during the actual works or training. Most of all I learned that time is very precious, that every minute’s counts, so now I will spend it wisely. OBJECTIVES OF TRAINING To trained my knowledge for being a better technician in the near future. To be familiarized in the different problems of one computer. To depend on my own opinion how to solve such a problem and not to depend on others. To know what is the problem of the computer in the way of troubleshooting and to experience the world of working. WORK ACCOMPLISHMENTS On my training in RCA Computer Sales and Services I able to apply my skill in their because we usually assemble a computer which is being teach in my beloved school which is Southern Luzon State University Gumaca Campus which located here in Gumaca Quezon. How to handle the parts of the computer with care and where to hold it because some parts of the computer is sensitive. How to put it carefully don’t need to be scratch, properly inserted the screw and proper tighten it.Then one time a customer came and ask how much for the speaker, their two speaker with a different price so I do the sales talk what our my sales clerk do because that time there are my customer that being entertained asking price and what parts are better for their computer and then I told to our customer what are the different of the two and best speaker is the one who has the higher price of course so that we have a sales and then we tested it and our customer satisfied with the sound then our customer said ok I will buy then how cookie crumble I made a sales and I know to communicate to the customer. The other is not very simple I got into a service to the Maritime at Enverga University i just bought their power supply and put it on their unit then back to RCA. Then a service again one customer buys a full set of computer monitor, mouse, keyboard, headset, webcam, computer table with chairs and the system unit of course and they requested to setup their unit on their home and then I volunteer to came with them and our sales clerk agree with that so where at their house I setup their unit and that’s it and I am not waiting for any tip for what I done then suddenly they me a two pieces of â€Å"Balot† how lucky I am then I said thank you.Their business is distributing a â€Å"Balot† in some place in lucena to sell it just sharing. This is what we usually do in everyday when we go to our training first is to clean the place. Then a customer came brought their system unit then our head technician ask what is the problem of their unit then we get the unit bring in the tech room to be troubleshoot then when it is finish to troub leshoot we tell to the customer what is the problem of their unit.If the problem is the operating system we will reformat it because that what our head technician told to us and I always volunteer do to that because I know how to do it because as I said our school teach that and the one teach us is no other than Ms. Cherry Ann Mendez. Thank you so much mam. And John Ralp and I is the must advance knowledge with our co-ojt because some of them don’t how to troubleshoot, how to go in cmos bios set-up. PROBLEM ENCOUNTERED AND SOLUTIONS OFFEREDIf you go in RCA lucena Branch and you are going to buy a ten unit of computer full set with table and chair you need to wait for one week or more because they don’t have any stock there they ordered it in the main office. Here’s a problem the RCA today is not the apple of the eye that you know it. Because the owner of RCA has a little problem with the supplier because some of the products are owe by the owner of RCA and not b eing paid so that the delivery on each branch is being delayed. Just sharing for information) Then were in the lucena branch of RCA on the first day of our training nothings seems to be worry as the days go on some customer asking for the products that their ordered and their get a no answer we said that â€Å"sir/mam we don’t have a delivery of the products that you order came back again next week maybe we have your ordered products. Some customer waited for almost three months and they did not get their ordered product even if they paid the half price of the product. Then another customer buying for one system unit some parts of the computer needed to assemble is available there in RCA and some parts is not available so our sales clerk need a sales and she need a local source of course they accepted it then our sales clerk ask for one trainee because she will be asking to buy the other parts in another store there is no illegal their because its business the bad part is the store that you’re going to brought the products, because they saying a bad thing on the part of RCA if they know that the one who’s buying is from RCA and I am the one who always buy the part of the computer needed for assemble and released for the customer. And here the one problem that Ralp and I encountered not with RCA but inside the RCA with our Co-Ojt there are super â€Å"TAMAD GRABE† here a setting our head branch calling for one trainee just to buy a mineral water just across the street and I know that they here that but there ignore it then a second call and I am inserting the MOBO on the casing because there some ordered to be released then suddenly one of my co-ojt pointed me and tell me that â€Å"hey cheynarrd mam gina asking you to buy her a mineral water† then I leave what I’m doing and pass it to them then I went outside to buy a mineral. If you are on the job training you should follow what your superior told do so. That’s my problem encounter and solution’s offered. JUSTIFICATIONAt the end of my training I will definitely say thanks for everything that I learned in RCA Computer Sales and Services and I will really miss all the bonding all the laughs, jokes to my co-OJT namely Jayson, Ricky, Jeff, Allan, Big, Espinar, Tangkad, Willard, Crystal, Mich and specially my partner John Ralp to our technician namely Sir Mike, Sir Ronnie and Sir Kenneth and to our head branch Mam Gina and our sales clerk Mam Jhona thanks again. I learned here how to communicate to my supervisor to my co-OJT and to the RCA customer and should I say that I really improve my skill here like assembling a computer using safety precaution and disassembling computer parts and peripherals. I also learned here what is the basic troubleshooting and how to troubleshoot as well and I put some flow chart attached here in my narrative report.I also improve me skill here and learned software and hardware installation and windows insta llation and being patient will installing. And also I learned here you should be memories the product key of your operating system like Windows XP service pack two because will you are in the field or servicing to your customer you don’t have to get your notes and then type it if you get what I’m saying. Here’s what product key that I been memories will I was there at RCA Computer Sales and Services K2KB2-BDBGV-KP686-D8T7X-HDMQ8 it is for all services pack two only. And I also learned here how to test your power supply if it is working or not. Maybe that’s all folks PICTURES/ENDURSEMENT

Tracking an Odd Construction in the Media

Tracking an Odd Construction in the Media Tracking an Odd Construction in the Media Tracking an Odd Construction in the Media By Maeve Maddox The following usage struck me as odd when I read it in the roundup column that appears on the front page of my daily paper: Rumsfeld says that George W. Bush was wrong to try to create democracy onto Iraq. I assumed that â€Å"create democracy onto Iraq† was simply an unfortunate stylistic lapse on the part of a local harried reporter. It can’t be easy to fit an entire news item into one coherent sentence of fewer than 50 words, especially under a tight deadline. But then I did a Google search of â€Å"create democracy onto† and traced the phrase to the article in which it originated: Former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, one of the staunchest defenders of the Iraq war, said in an interview with the  Times  of London that his boss, former President George W. Bush, was wrong to try to create  democracy onto Iraq.- David Knowles, Bloomberg One might attempt to create a democracy in Iraq or even for Iraq, but â€Å"to create a democracy onto Iraq† is not idiomatic English. To rule out the possibility that Rumsfeld was responsible for the odd wording, I tracked down his original comment in the Times: The idea that we could fashion a democracy in Iraq seemed to me unrealistic. Rumsfeld was not the culprit. The word that he did use, fashion (â€Å"to give shape to†) is an appropriate choice in the context of altering an existing system. Create is from Latin creare, â€Å"to procreate or to give birth.† One meaning of the verb create is â€Å"to bring into being, to cause to exist,† especially with the sense of â€Å"to produce something where nothing was before.† Some synonyms for create in the sense of produce or make: generate fabricate fashion build construct design devise originate frame develop shape form forge Want to improve your English in five minutes a day? Corn as biofuel Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Corn as biofuel - Research Paper Example Courting this scenario an alternative source of energy is in its utmost need. At this background a series of alternative sources of energy such as solar energy, hydro electric energy, and atomic energy all made their entrance on the discussion table. However the most new form of alternative might be the bio fuel that nowadays has gathered much interest of the scientists. Among the bio fuels, Jatropha, Pongamia are some very common names, but the recent emergence of corn as a vital source of bio fuel and there by a source of energy might be nothing short of path breaking. However before moving into details regarding the corn fuel it would be wise to consider some associated points before hand. Crude Oil & USA United States of America is the largest consumer of crude oil and the third largest producer. In statistical terms USA produces around 10% of the global crude oil and consumes 24% of the same. Furthermore in order to keep its existence in export market the country indulges in exp orting 1.4 million barrels of crude oil per day. A careful consideration of this situation clearly indicates a demand supple gap that needs to be filled with import of crude oil. It has been estimated that USA in the year 2007 imported 12MMBD that is in terms of percentage 58% of the total domestic demand (Energy Information Center 2008). Dependency of USA in terms of crude oil on other countries and overseas Among the total import of crude oil the Western Hemisphere constitutes 51% of the total import. Canada, Venezuela, Saudi Arabia, Mexico and Nigeria are other oil exporting countries in USA in exact order. The following table depicts the dependence of USA in terms of crude oil import based on 2007 data. Name of the Country Percentage of Crude oil exported to USA Western Hemisphere (North, South, Central America along with parts of USA in Caribbean) 51% Canada 23.3% Venezuela 10.7% Saudi Arabia 10.4% Mexico 9.2% Nigeria 8.3% Source: Energy Information Association, 2008 Rickman, 2 009 Alarming news is that this dependency without being reduced over the time is actually increasing and statistics reveals that import of crude oil has actually increased by 0.183 MMBD in August 2008 over the previous month. It should also be kept in mind that countries like Iraq, Brazil, Angola and Kuwait are kept aside of the above table who contributes at substantial level to the USA oil import. (Energy Information Center, n.d.; Energy Information Center 2008) Why should we look at alternative fuels? As mentioned earlier that fossil fuel is limited in availability and it is constantly depleting, at this rate either coal or crude oil can not sustain as the prime form of global energy source beyond 2025 to 2035. Humanity is in search for some alternatives that can be used and re used time and again as a source of energy or at least can be produced at one’s free will. The trade partners of USA in Crude oil and their unfriendly behaviour USA shares a hostile relation apart fr om Saudi Arabia and partially with Kuwait among al the Middle East countries. Among them Iraq and Iran are USA’s arch enemies. Saudi’s oil reserve is depleting and it can not hold for long its position as an important oil exporting country. Kuwaiti oil wells were set in fire long back during the Iraq-Kuwait war and that had eroded the country of the prime position it used to enjoy as oil enriched country. Again historically Middle East is an area that has

Criminal Justice Problems Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Criminal Justice Problems - Essay Example However, all is not lost yet. . One of the best ways t o exert a crease on such occurrences, is through education. Education helps refine children and their thinking processes. Since they can be moulded easily and brought into a certain fold, imparting education to juveniles is necessary. By doing so, delinquency rates can experience a dip, while also facilitating the rehabilitation of juveniles who have been led on to the wrong path. This paper attempts to explore the justification of juvenile crime and to seek a better mode of addressing the issue, rather than mere punishment as justice. Education can play an important role in helping the juvenile return to normalcy and achieve success, by changing his pattern of thinking, infusing a sense of tolerance and optimism, and by helping them emerge out of a pessimistic and criminal mindset. This can be done by following policies and programmes in schools and juvenile rehabilitation centres, in order to help juveniles overcome their psychological problems, first and then to help them adapt to leading a life of normalcy and success. Next, the interaction between studen

Government Leader Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3750 words

Government Leader - Essay Example Government, with the authority to make laws, to adjudicate disputes, and to issue administrative decisions, and with a monopoly of authorized force where it fails to persuade, is an indispensable means, proximately, to the peace of communal life." (Government, Wikipedia.org) Running a country is not an easy task, it involves several roles and duties, and above all, it requires trying to maintain the audience satisfied. A good government leader and his/her should execute these tasks and skills to produce a decent outcome. With that in mind, I believe it is appropriate to compare some of the tasks of a government leader with the tasks of a Project Manager. According to Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia, a "Project Manager is required to plan, organize, and control", the same as a government leader in most aspects. (Project Management, Wikipedia.org) The Government leader should define specific objectives and generate a series of plans in order to reach his/her specific goals. He/she should not be limited to a single goal, since the needs of a country or a region are several, and the hopes are also high. Moreover, in some well established governments, the overall goals have been set previously and there is no need to reformulate them, just to continue working on them. On the other hand, there are countries that are constantly redefining its goals and any new leader recently sworn in, needs to start from zero. An example of the first statement is the hard work produced by the founding fathers of America. Mainly they needed to create a free country, ready to develop and grow as they continued moving west. During those days, the tasks were not as complicated as they are today; however, they managed to set goals that are still good during our current time: Life, liberty and pursuit of happiness. (Magna Carta and its American Legacy, www.fa-ir.org) An example of the contrasting situation would be Bolivia, a country that has been experiencing a series of radical changes, ranging from the creation of a new constitution to the nationalization of industries that have privatized during

The Main Forces Promoting Globalization Economics Essay

The Main Forces Promoting Globalization Economics Essay Karl Marx wrote in the 1848 in the Manifest der Kommunistischen Partei (The Communist Manifesto) that à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã… ¾in place of the old local and national seclusion and self sufficiency we have exchanges in every direction, leading to the universal interdependence of nations. Therefore, we can conclude that globalization as a force for economic, political and social change is not a new phenomenon. In this essay I will extract what were the driving forces of globalization at the end of the 20th and 19th century and compare them to reach a conclusion of whether these two centuries experienced the same type of globalization. To start with, there are disputes amongst academics on what globalization really is. Globalization is a historically complex term and itself it could be a huge topic of global discussion and many articles. However, I will firstly give two definitions of this phenomenon in order to make it clearer to understand how important is the subject of this essay. Therefore, globalization isà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦. The inexorable integration of markets, nation-states, and technologies to a degree never witnessed before-in a way that is enabling individuals, corporations and nation-states to reach around the world farther, faster, deeper and cheaper than ever before . . . . the spread of free-market capitalism to virtually every country in the world (T.L. Friedman, (1990) The Lexus and the Olive Tree, p. 7-8). Andà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦ The historical transformation constituted by the sum of particular forms and instances of . . . . making or being made global (i) by the active dissemination of practices, values, technology and other human products throughout the globe (ii) when global practices and so on exercise an increasing influence over peoples lives (iii) when the globe serves as a focus for, or a premise in shaping, human activities (M. Albrow, (1996) The Global Age, p. 88). As we have now acquired the formal definition of globalization, lets outline what were the sources of globalization in the late 20th century. One of the main causes behind globalization in the 20th century was technological innovation. Quickly changing technologies used in transport and communications continued to disband the barriers of time and distance that were making long range relationships between countries more difficult. In the 20th century, the most important technological innovations that changed international relations were the jet-plane, satellites and the World Wide Web. For example, this means that between 1930 to 1990, average air transport revenue per passenger mile fell from $0.68 to $0.11 (in 1990 dollars) and the cost of 3-minutes call from New York to London fell from $244.65 to $3.32 (and the total volume of international telephone calls more than doubled in just six years during the 1990s, from 33 billion minutes in 1990 to 70 billion minutes in 1996). Next factor of globalization at the end of the 20th century were decreasing trade barriers, lower tariffs and fewer non-tariff trade barriers. For example, by 2000, the average tariffs of developed countries were 3.8%, while developing countries average tariffs were 12.3%. Moreover, a rising population in less-developed and prosperous areas frequently has triggered emigration to areas of economic prospect and the need for energy and industrial raw materials to help developed economies also affected the globalization process by promoting greater flow of goods (and therefore enhanced the interdependence of international economies). Finally, leadership has also contributed to the movement of globalization in the late 20th century. Had the United States (as the worlds leading economic and military power in the 20th century) not committed its public policy to promote an open international economic system, it is probable that the globalization process would have taken a different course an d not necessarily an advantageous one. What is more, the end of the 20th century experienced the rise of new markets that set off globalization which led to the international trade in goods and services figuring up to more than $7 trillion this represents more than $1000 per person which is an astounding figure. But, what was really new was the spectacular rise of a global capital market. This made it relatively easy for anyone with capital to trade anytime and everyday with almost every country of the world. For instance, in 1998, around $1.5 trillion exchanged hands on the worlds currency markets every day. Furthermore, by analysing the 19th century globalization, ORourke and Williamson highlighted the outcomes of the fall in transportation costs. In their opinion, the major fall in transportation costs (firstly lowered by the steamboat, and then lowered even more by the railroads) was the main factor in interconnecting distant markets; the decline in international transport costs after the middle of the century was enormous. When academics analyse this period, they tend to ignore the decline in transportation costs and focus instead on tariffs and international trade. However, tariffs in the world economy did not fall until World War I and therefore the globalization that appeared in the late 19th century cannot be qualified as a consequence of a more liberal trade policy. As a result, the decline in transport costs alone contributed greatly to commodity market integration across the Atlantic economies. What is more, the reasoning above seems controversial to the advocates of the argument that the primary factor driving market integration during the late 19th century was trade policy. Still, although the result of Englands move to free trade did contribute to a more closer market integration, by the end of the 19th century, only few European economies stood firmly in the free trade camp. The commodity prices continued to reduce across distant Atlantic economies during these years and this further shows the relative importance of falling transport costs. Just as the decrease in transport costs expanded commodity market integration, according to Jeffrey Williamson mass migrations also helped to bring about greater wage convergence in the Atlantic economies in the late 19th century. Immigration led to the movement from the labour-full countries of the Old Europe to the labour-limited countries of the New World, and this adjusted wages accordingly (high wages in the New World began to d ecrease and the low wages in the European countries began to increase). The convergence was everywhere in the late 19th century Atlantic economy, as wages and living standards in Europe began to catch up with the wages in the New World countries. In addition, we can also talk about the involvement of technology (e.g. the telegraph), financial institutions (the gold standard), and politics (the relative international political and economic harmony) which have led to capital integration. Lastly, capitalism  has  been  another influence on globalization. In the late 1850s, Karl Marx estimated in 1859 in his Grundrisse der Kritik der Politischen Ekonomie (A Contribution to the Critique of Political Economy) that à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã… ¾capital by its nature drives beyond every spatial barrier to conquer the whole Earth for its market. Global markets of the 19th century offered opportunity to increase profits through higher volumes of sale. In addition, larger production supplied global markets with the assurance of increased profits as a result of the economies of scale. Capitalists admired globalization because it allowed production facilities to be located in places where costs are lowest and earnings greatest. As we can now comprehend, both globalization of the 19th century and the 20th century are rather similar. The main factor behind this phenomenon in these periods was the fall in transport costs. In the 19th century it were the steamboat and rail whereas in the late 20th century it were the plane, satellites and the Internet that reduced the costs of transportation and communication, leading to global interconnection. Also, migration has been a major factor leading to globalization when wages around the world were adjusted. Capitalism has proved to promote the globalization phenomenon in the 19th century as an innovative economic system and in the 20th century, by being a world wide theory of wealth it has done it again. What seems to be the only major difference between the processes of globalization in both centuries is the protective practices of the 19th century countries with only few of them promoting free trade and the late 20th century interdependent world trade market. Howeve r, in the former case, protectionism has proved to be counter-globalizing whereas free-trade policy in the latter case was seen as one of the reasons for globalization. Therefore, although todays globalization that stated in the 20th century differs from the one of the 1800s, the driving forces were more or less the same in both cases.

Pre 1914 Poetry :: English Literature

English GCSE Coursework – Pre1914 Poetry How does Hardy portray the themes of loss and loneliness in his poems? I am going to be comparing three of Thomas Hardy’s poems. These poems are: Where The Picnic Was, The Voice and Neutral Tones. Hardy was writing in a time when women could not vote. Women were second-class citizens who mainly stayed in the home. During the time when Hardy was writing, it was very difficult for a woman to divorce a man. The only way the woman would be able to divorce the man was only if she could prove cruelty. However, unlike women, a man could divorce his wife just like that with a minor reason. Thomas Hardy himself believed in marriage but only if people had similar interests. If people grew apart, he believed that they should be allowed to divorce. Hardy married twice in his lifetime. In 1874, Hardy married Emma Lavinia Gifford. She convinced him to start writing. Emma Hardy could not have children but still, Hardy continued the marriage without divorcing. On November 27th 1912, Emma Hardy died after being married for 38 years. Two years later, Hardy married his secretary, Florence Emily Dugdale. She was 35 and he was 74. She acted as his companion and housekeeper. The poems I have chosen to compare were all written after Emma’s death. Where The Picnic Was is basically talking about a picnic he had been on with Emma. He explains how it was in a secluded area were hardly anyone went. The title suggests happy as you normally go for a picnic in summer or spring, it also suggests that he went with someone like family or someone he was in love with, it mainly suggests love, but it also suggest looking back because of the ‘was’ in the title. All the poems do not contain the same content but overall relate to the death of Emma and looking back at good times. The mood of this poem changes as it goes on. In the first verse of the poem, it is a happy mood, but gradually the mood changes in verse 2 and in verse 3, the mood is oriented on the death of Emma and less on natural setting. Happiness in the first verse is shown in this quote. ‘In the summer time’. The sadness in the third verse is shown in this quote, ‘Where no picnics are, And one – has shut her eyes’. This reflects how Hardy is feeling because this is a one of the things he uses to reflect his mood. The theme of this poem is a place of

Pit and the Pendulum Journal

Poe makes this short story really good with two different styles, he uses a varied sense of time In this story, and he also uses the first person narration to Improve upon the thrill and suspense of this short story. This varied sense of time gives mystery to the story, as neither we, the audience, nor the narrator seem to know exactly how much time passes each time the narrator goes unconscious, and It appeared to me that a very long interval of time had since elapsed. Poe 2). This quote shows that the narrator has a slight sense of time, but since he has no watch, he cannot accurately perceive the time elapsed with each time he goes unconscious, he only uses the fact that his surroundings change after he wakes up. The first person narration also adds to the quality of this story as it gives mystery, perspective, and it even lets us predict to some extent. The mystery is in that we only know what the narrator knows, so we are somewhat as clueless to what is occurring as he is.The pe rspective Is good because we are given all of his thoughts and this gives us reasoning to his actions, without such reasoning the story would be much more difficult to understand. The first person narration also gives us a sense of what Is going to happen, â€Å"They appeared to me white – whiter than the sheet upon which I trace these words. † (1). This tells us that the narrator survives through the story because he is writing the story for us on paper, therefore he could not have died in this torture chamber.

Coming Of Age Personal Essay Essay

Everybody experiences coming of age in their lifetime. Coming of age is the transition from childhood to adulthood. My coming of age started in the middle of my grade 8 year and has continued up until the present. So, for me coming of age has occurred from grades 8-10. The three steps that really defined my coming of age was my traveling to Europe, starting high school and getting my first job at Tim Horton’s. My first step in my coming of age was traveling to Europe with my aunt and uncle. Firstly, I was not with my parents which made me feel more self-reliant. This was my first time riding on a plane and traveling for more than a week without my parent so at the time it seemed like a big deal. I felt that because I was not being watched over as heavily, I was more responsible and was growing up. Secondly, I was starting to travel the world for the first time and it made me think of my future. It reminded me that when I was old enough, there were going to be endless possibilities to what I could accomplish and where I could go. This is definitely an important step in growing up. Realizing that you need to start preparing for your future and start to figure out what you want to do and where you want to go. Lastly, I made new older friends that made me feel like I was growing up and expanding my â€Å"bubble†. The people I met were older then I was and were so friendly. I felt more m ature around them. Meeting new people if all part of â€Å"coming of age†. This is why traveling to Europe was the first step for me to start maturing and to start coming of age. The second step I took towards my coming of age was when I started attending high school at Sir William Mulock Secondary School. Starting high school was a big change from elementary because there was a lot more responsibility. The teachers do not come after you for late assignments and there is a lot more homework that is necessary to complete. This helped me prepare myself for after high school when my employers will need me to show initiative when completing tasks. So therefore, this was a big step in my coming of age. Secondly, when you are in high school, authorities start to treat you as a mature young adult. This means that they have fast paced learning environments and expect you to show up for class. If you miss to many classes you will not pass the course. This taught me to push myself when I was tired or sick which is a big part of growing up. When you are an adult working full time, you can’t skip work when you aren’t feeling well. So for these reasons, starting high school was a big step in my coming of age. The last and most recent step towards my coming of age was starting my part time job at Tim Horton’s. Having this job as my first job was a big responsibility. In order to keep my job I had to show up on time, manage my extracurricular activities and homework around working, ask a lot of questions and deal with co-workers. This added responsibility helped me to start to understand what working will be like once I have graduated high school. Thinking ahead for the future and obtaining responsibility is part of coming of age. Also, for this job I had to learn many new skills. When you are starting a new job there are many techniques you have yet to master such as operating the cash register and making food/beverages as well as customer service skills. Learning all of this helped to me feel more mature and useful. Lastly, the job provided me with a steady flow of cash. Earning money was something that I had never experienced before and it gave me a good feeling. It made me self-r eliant , which is a big part of growing up. Having my own money and being able to spend it on what I want is also a test to see if I can make good decisions or not as well as teaching me money management. This is an important skill for when I have moved out. Therefore , getting my own job was the most recent step in my coming of age. So for these reason, I think that my coming of age happened over my grade 8-10 years. I am not done growing up yet, but the main events leading up to this day that have started my coming of age were my traveling to Europe, starting high school and getting my first job. There will be many more events in my future that will continue my coming of age in the future, but for now I am young and am excited for the growing that I still have to do.

Find Your New Job In 6 Steps

Find Your New Job In 6 Steps Janet Flewelling, managing director at business advisor Insperity, has six essential tips for job seekers hoping to stand out from the crowd. They may seem intuitive, but many a promising candidate has stumbled over one or more of these steps and bungled a potential opportunity. 1. Identify Recent AchievementsThis is the foundation of your next several steps. Take stock of your past year of employment and make notes of accomplishments and milestones to highlight in your resume, networking conversations, and interviews.2. Refresh Your ResumeFor every position you’re applying for, created a tailored version of your resume. Make sure there are no extraneous outdated positions, no expired contact information, no irrelevant experience. Add any recent awards or recognition, related volunteer experience, certifications, and current responsibilities that may grab a hiring manager’s attention. Be sure you use industry keywords and specific phrases from the job posting wherever p ossible, an essential step in online applications. And of course, make sure all of your materials are impeccably proofread.3. Establish a Network of AlliesThe days of a mass email to friends and family describing what you’re looking for may be over, but the internet has plenty of online networking opportunities to offer. Use LinkedIn to ask former managers and colleagues for recommendations, send them messages to alert them to specific positions you hope to interview for–bottom line, get on their radar and stay in touch.4. Be Smart About Social MediaMake sure your social profiles are new-employer friendly, and make selected posts public so that your profile is searchable. â€Å"Like† the pages of companies you’re interested in so you can stay informed of related news items and developments–you can identify potential contacts, as well as come across as knowledgable in the event you get an interview.5. Practice InterviewingAsk friends and colleagues for their help preparing you for one-on-one interviews–the more deliberate you are about this step, the better. Make yourself a cheatsheet, like a comedian’s set list, to keep relevant anecdotes in mind. The last thing you want to do in a real interview is go blank or ramble. Decide what stories best highlight your ability, and practice delivering them in a natural, conversational style.6. Learn New SkillsPossibly the best use of your time while you’re waiting to be called back about an application is in acquiring new skills or updating your old ones. Register for conferences and seminars in your field, take local classes, pursue certifications–figure out what skills the person in your dream job has, and make sure you can say the same about yourself. Plus, these activities give you an opportunity to meet more current or aspiring people in your industry, which makes networking feel less forced and more like a gathering of like-minded individuals in pursuit of the same goals.6 tips for landing a new jobRead More at The Business Journals

The Ancient Art and Its Forms Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

The Ancient Art and Its Forms - Essay Example The first Indian art is believed to be 5,000 years old, which included stone carving and bronze castings. With a great history of Hinduism and Buddhism, the Indians produced many religious pieces of arts. People in ancient Central America around Mexico region began their artistic work 1000 years BC. The region is famous for the production of wonderful ceramics with kilns burning it over 900Â °C (Henry M, 2012, p. pg 123). The Christian era began during the ancient times and is believed to have continued evolving until the modern times. The most striking features of this period include monuments produced by Indians, Egyptians, Romans and many other groups. However, we shall concentrate on two striking monuments like the Minoan Snake Goddess and Totem Pole. Minoan Snake Goddess is an ancient cultural piece of art that depicts the Goddess holds two snakes in each hand. The first production of Minoan Snake goddess dates back to 1600BCE. The piece of art resembles a totem pole by the manner in which it is decorated. An interpretation of the open breast reveals the fertile nature of the Goddess. The snakes are a symbol of renewed life since the snakes are regarded as immortal whenever they shed their skin and renew their strength. The above pieces of art resemble each other in the manner in which they are decorated (Richerson, 1992). They are also symbols of religion. Indians in their temples use the Minoan Goddess symbol. The two pieces of art are 3-dimensional carvings mostly done using the stone. Indians used the stone to produce most of their ancient art and so was Minoan Snake Goddess. Use of colors was highly emphasized ancient artists because colors and decorations brought out the beauty aspect of the intended art. Use of line and shape has also been used in the two pieces of art. Shapes like triangle and cube boxes have been employed in the Minoan Snake Goddess. Hostile takeovers are sometimes preferred because it allows the takeover firm to, essentially, ambush the target company, giving them no time to react, preempt, or interfere with such a takeover. It forces the hands of the target company giving them little beneficial choice in attempting to impede the takeover. Friendly takeovers are only really beneficial when the takeover company wants to maintain much of the staff and management and prevent any interference in productivity. A friendly takeover comes with a warning and can encourage more cooperation; however that is not always the case. Sometimes, the foreknowledge of the takeover can lead to the target company, raising the value of its stocks and granting greater opportunity to impede the process if they so wish. Both have advantages and disadvantages, but it’s the opportunity that the element of surprise offers that makes hostile takeovers so common. 3.
